Leukemia is a cancerous blood, whether from blood or a bone marrow that causes the body to have an abnormal large amount of white blood cells. Adults usually get this condition more than kids do because the population of adults who have it is 90% from a 2000 survey. At least 209,000 people died from it and around the world, at approximately 256,000 children and adults have some form of leukemia.

There are different types of leukemia that exists which is chronic and acute leukemia, myelogenous leukemias, lymphocytic leukemias, Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), Adult T-cell leukemia, Hairy cell leukemia (HCL), T-cell prolymphocytic leukemia (T-PLL), Large granular lymphocytic leukemia, Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), and Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML). And most of these leukemia affects adults more than children.

No known cause for some of the leukemia but sometimes the external environment or the person’s lifestyle may encourage the cancer cell to grow. For example, there is a small increase of developing acute myeloid leukemia which is due to using tobacco. Or using a hair dye and petrochemical that can maybe cause some form of leukemia. There are studies that show they can be a potential cancer causer in people. A chromosomal abnormality may increase the risk of getting some form of leukemia such as Down syndrome or Fanconi anemia.

There are a few options to use as treatments for some leukemia symptoms such as taking the radiation and sometimes combine it is with medications to control the leukemia condition. A bone marrow transplant and chemotherapy are the other two options used and any one of them is recommended by a doctor.

Most forms of leukemia can be treated with some pharmaceutical medications and is available at the pharmacy. The anti-cancer drug is used on some of the leukemia along with imatinib (Gleevec) therapy.

It is important to treat the condition as soon as possible and as long as leukemia is around, doctors and scientists will one day find a cure to eliminate this disease.
